What is FAGGA?
Your FAGGA may share a resemblance with a wired retain, but it is actually categorized as a bone growth appliance because it actually expands the upper arch of your jaw.
How does FAGGA work?
Your FAAGA is a non-removable appliance that will be attached to you back teeth and gently put pressure on what is called the nasopalatine nerve that runs through your palate. This pressure stimulates growth in your upper jaw, which also allows your lower jaw to move forward. When this growth takes place, it can create room for crowded teeth, and it can open up your airway, enlarge your airway and move your face forward.
This process occurs in two phases and can take between 14 and 25 months to complete. Phase one involves wearing your FAGGA and often takes somewhere around 7 months. During phase two you will wear controlled arch braces to ensure that your teeth are moved into their optimal position. Phase two can take approximately 18 months.
What are the Benefits of FAGGA?
One of the major benefits to FAGGA is that you can expand your jaw without the need for surgery. All surgeries come with risk, and with this treatment option you get to avoid that risk. More benefits can include long-term relief from issues like TMD pain and Sleep Apnea without the long-term use of oral appliances. Your FAGGA can help you with sleep apnea and snoring because when you undergo the maxillary expansion of your jaw, your airway can be opened up. And when your upper jaw expands during this treatment process, it can effectively realign your lower jaw, helping to relieve TMD pain without surgery!
